Tips on Auditioning
When a client holds a casting they have a very long day of seeing many many peopl that would like the same job you want. There are a few things you can do to better your chances of catching their eye and booking the assignment.
For Women,
- Wear a skirt, shorts, dress that shows your legs. This is particularly relevant for runway castings. They pair walking partners by knees.
- Also wear something sparkly it catches the eye and is different.
- Wear good shoes. You never know what they will ask you to do. It’s not uncommon to have to stand on one foot for a minute to test your balance.
- Wear nice clean make up. Do not over do it, you’re a blank canvas to a client. You will look however they need you to look.
- Pretty clean hair is essential. They need to see your face clearly.
For Men,
- Wear dress pants (unless they call for otherwise). Get a good go-to pair of dress pants that show your frame.
- A good colored shirt of tie will keep their attention.
- Have clean, polished dress shoes. Do not show up to a casting in gym shoes. Look proessional and they will take you seriously.
- Good skin is essential, wear moisturizer and be careful when you shave. No toilet paper over cuts at an audition.
The most important thing is your personabiltiy. Be very nice and friendly with everybody in the room. Tell them about your self. Guide them through your book and resume. Make comments about previous jobs that are like the one you’re auditioning for. If you have formal training, let them know. Give a complement to at least one person in the room. Ask them questions about the job. If you can help with anything else they may need. Lastly go to the casting at your scheduled time. If the casting is an open time slot go later in the day. The first few in never make the cut because they are judging very harshly in the beginning. Good talent is hard to find.
