Generally around October I start to pace my floors and pray that I make it through hiatus to see the New Year. Winter Hiatus in LA is no joke! Nobody works, it’s absolutely terrible. Between Thanksgiving and New Years eve god help you. My first one in LA was nearly lethal and not of the Mel Gibson Chris Tucker variety.
This year worked out really well. Aside picking up new clients I revisited old projects. During mid December I worked on my 2nd episode of CSI NY. I wore a blue wig and looked like something out of tron. Alison Brown was the director and she was lovely. My hair guy was the fist TV hair guy I ever had when I used to work on the show Numb3rs. He specializes in strange color and hair pieces. Met some awesome new girls on the show and ran into a few I had worked with before.
In addition too a HUGE project I’m filming right now that I cant talk about. It’s will be stellar and I cant wait for everybody to see it.

This was taken from WWW.Fashionista.COM

Here’s a new development in the never ending saga that is France’s apparent disregard for age-appropriateness (or our extreme prudishness and over-sensitivity–depending on your persective): a new line of “loungerie” (that’s lingerie plus loungewear) for girls aged three months and up has just been brought to our attention. It’s called Jours Après Lunes, and it bills itself as “the first designer brand dedicated to ‘loungerie’ for children and teenagers, comprised of loungewear and lingerie to be worn over and under, inside and outside.”

It basically looks like lingerie–with maybe a tad more coverage–and would be totally okay for adults to wear but Jours Après Lunes is producing this stuff for girls ages 4-12 (the “loungerie” for the 3 month – 36 month age range is actually age-appropriate and cute, thankfully), so that mother and daughter can match. According to the site, the designer has a long background in designing lingerie (for grown ups) and she’s designed a “femme” collection for the over-tween set.

What’s disturbing about Jours Après Lunes is not just the fact that it’s lingerie for people who probably shouldn’t be old enough to even know what lingerie is, but the photographs on their website. The little “filles” are styled like grown women with Amy Winehouse hair, sunglasses and pearls and there are a few instances of Thylane Blondeau-esque seductive gazing and reclining poses.

We now know what Thylane Blondeau’s mother was talking about when she said her daughter’s French Vogue spread wasn’t that bad–at least Thylane was fully clothed!

Despite being more age-appropriate, even the photographs for the “femme” collection are unsettling. The way the young-looking model is posed with that sunglasses-wearing teddy bear–she’s made to look like a child, while the actual children are made to look like adults.

What do you think? Should four-year-olds be hanging out in bras and panties…with nothing over them…with pearls? Is there any context in which that makes sense?

Take a look at the collection.

My thoughts on this. I have zero issues with the composition of this campaign. I don’t think this girl feels very sexy, I think she’s just feeling like she has ” big girl stuff” I don’t see anything sexy here, maybe if you do you’re looking in the wrong place. If I was a 6 year old again this stuff would have been way nicer to wear then then licensed character underwear out of a plastic pack at target. Let the kids have their cutesy stuff if they want it. Some little girls can tell the difference from the target stuff and the nice stuff. People are missing that women don’t really dress for men they dress in what they like. McQueen Armadillo heels are an item some people would kick their grandma to be able to wear and I highly doubt men like amradillo heels. The reason a four year old wants a bra is because kids want what ever they see. As for the styling maybe more kids should have hair styles, not cheap $10 hair cuts from because their parents don’t think its worth it to keep up their child’s hair.

Given the recent controversies regarding underage models, including one that involved CFDA president Diane Von Furstenberg discovering that one of her models, Hailey Clauson (yes, the same one involved in that Urban Outfitters lawsuit), was only 15 at the time of her runway show, the CFDA is introducing new measures to ensure the safety and legality of models in the fashion industry.

According to WWD, Furstenberg and CFDA CEO Steven Kolb sent out a letter to members yesterday recommending that they start carding models on the day of the show (before they hit the runway) to make sure they meet the 16 year age minimum. That seems like something they should do earlier, like in the casting stages, or before their agencies send them out, but I guess better late than never?

Michael Kors recently spoke to Lauren Hutton in the new Interview (so awesome) and hinted that models started lying to him about their ages as soon as he said he wouldn’t use models under 16:

Yeah, and the 14-year-olds are really tricky. I mean, they’re children. I said two years ago, “No models under 16.” Well, of course, right after I said that, we started seeing all of these girls from Eastern Europe, and every girl who’d walk in, you’d say, “Hi. What’s your name?” And she’d be like, “I’m Svetlana.” I’m like, “Svetlana, where are you from?” “Ukraine.” “Svetlana, how old are you?” “16.” Next girl walks in—she’s from Eastern Europe and 16. Next one? Eastern European and 16. I was like, “Was there a bus?”

However, Kors’ problem with super young models is not the just legal and moral ramifications–he goes on to say,

But I still think it’s a tricky thing because no matter how beautiful you might be at 15 or 16, the simple truth is that you haven’t lived enough to really know how to project anything in a photograph. It’s like a kind of blank beauty.

Also, the idea of a 14-year-old wearing Michael Kors is just weird, no?

The CFDA is also launching the “CFDA Ambassador Program,” which sounds like some sort of mentorship program for the fashion world’s incoming freshmen. Apparently, relative modeling veterans Sara Ziff and Lily Aldridge have signed on as ambassadors to give support and advice to new models at their respective agencies. We just hope there’s no hazing involved.

I started modeling at the age of 12. Misisng days of 8th grade to walk in Maxmara shows. Back in the day this was perfectly acceptable, Other than to my math teacher. Now I’m not sure when this over 16 rule was imposed but it’s strange. As to my knowledge there are no age restrictions on entertainment workers with the exception of parent consent and student requirements being met. I say let the girls walk, because I did and so many other models started super young. How else are you supposed to learn anything before you’re forced into retirement at 25.

Its really easy to say “oh that person just relies on looks.” If you think modeling, entertainment or fashion is a easy job you have obviously never experienced any of the above. So to combat those who judge or just plain hate try this line. “Your little 8 dollar an hour job must be easy because your time isn’t worth very much$”. Bottom line this isn’t glamorous. Like I’ve always said I love my career more than words but its not as fun as it looks. Everybody has a rough go at things at one point or another. Some people have it rough forever or usually just as long as they have their head up their ass.
I reassess my direction and priorities on a weekly and monthly basis. Being able to adapt to that it is key. Make note in writing of what your trying to do and the steps to get there IN DETAIL! I cannot stress enough how important it is to write out specific things that need to be done to get you where you need to be. An actual plan of action, not just a heading but a footing as well. When a couple months pass review your old notes and see what ideas you made a reality. It really helps keep a perspective of what is going on. I always forget what things I’ve done and sometimes I need a reminder of where I was and where I am. Sometimes its just looking at my resume or thinking about “I remember when I didn’t think that was possible but now its old news”. Keep things moving everyday. Get up and attack.

Last week I danced on the new video Work Out for J Cole. It was a long shoot but the best crafty that I have had on a video. However, the night catering wasn’t very good. Drake showed up just to hang out for a few hours towards the end of the shoot. He didn’t do anything about the icky catering. I wore a blue dress and heels that I had worn to the BET awards 2 years ago. The girls who worked on this video were hands own the best group of videos girls I have ever worked with. They were all loads of fun. Jake Davis directed and most of the crew were females. On rare occasion are there female crew members that are not in the beauty departments. Made for a nice change of pace over dirty, furry crew guys who make bad jokes and ask stupid questions. Kerri whose last name I don’t know but is kind of my hero because she is an executive producer on a lot of projects. She really kept this shoot moving by yelling at the 1st AD to get his shit moving so we didn’t need to extend our permit. J Cole had his homies at the shoot and they were great sports on the long hours. They had lots of questions on how these things come together.

Yes we called the guy with the mouse Jesus hehe

WTF THEY SHOT TWO VIDEOS

This video was posted on Vevo

At the world famous muscle beach stages in Venice beach I walked in the Dominque Ansari fashion show. BET 106 & Park has a talent show every year around the country called Blaze the Stage. There was acts going on all day, two of which were fashion shows. Our hair and make up team did a great job keeping our looks intact while on a windy beach. I was really glad I packed lots of clothes because it was cold in the morning and hot in the evening. We did have a serious gawker problem. A random man with a camera came into my make up tent ad started taking pictures inside my face. He truly didn’t think that it would be a bother for him to be in the way and take pictures he didn’t have permission to take. Always tell gawkers off if they are acting out of line tell them. You don’t need to have unnecessary people in your work environment.

On Tuesday in Las Vegas, Tva Parks and I went out to Gallery Night Club to pop open some Hennessy Black. As it happens I already knew the people we went to go party with. Jey Hall works on music with Veto aka Dr. Dre’s engineer. The world really is just to small. Any how look for more to come with this group we have big plans in the works. Comment on you thoughts on Hennessy Black. I don’t even drink but this stuff is great.

Last week while in Hawaii I went all the way to north shore to do a photo shoot. The light was amazing and the water was super warm. Water in California is like standing in a bucket of ice therefore shooting on the beach is not as fun as it looks. Although shooting on Hawaii beaches is pretty rocky and my knees were not happy with me.
I have yet to see the images but I’m happy with the light and wind that day. Expect serious diva shots.

This is the first draft of my book prologue it will be published in different words but carrying the same message.
While I do love my life. If you are interested in working in entertainment because its glamorous you’re wrong, stop reading and go be an accountant. Standing chest deep in the ocean at 4 am in december is not glamorous. Neither is eating bad catering or spending you’re day wasting gas on auditions you’re not going to book. Not everybody is qualified for every job. I have no business being a train engineer. Same goes with any aspect of entertainment. Im never one to preach creativity or artistic god given power. I have neither however I am over 5’8″, have correct bone structure in my nose cheeks and eyes and I fit into sample size.
