Kava Hair Mask and Serum
Kava hair mask has been the savior to my strands. After all of the ironing and heat and ratting of my hair it gets really dry and broken. I have virgin hair so its in the best possible position to take the beating that modeling, TV and film does to it. I just put it on after conditioning and leave it in for at least 5 minutes then rise it out cold. It adds an extra layer of protection to all types of abuse that is heaped on it.
I gave my friend with very curly hair the Kava hair serum, and she loves it on her hair.

Due to the fact that I live in LA, I see WAY too much fakeness. I’m not talking about the movie facade fake. When deciding on your look and changing up your appearance you need to consider a few things. Look at the girls who are booking the kind of work you want. Google any agency out there and you can see their boards. Do they have serious plastic surgery? collagen up the wazoo? botoxed to no expression???? The answer is no!! Also, their hair isn’t died to the point of breakage and their nails don’t have unnatural colors and they are kept up. There is NO reason for this injection crap. It is not attractive in any way and very hard to work with. Hair stylist don’t have the time to soak your hair in protein before a shoot to make it manageable. There is no Dr. out there that can evenly fill any kind of line or lip better than god. These things show on camera and costs more time and money in re touching. There is no better substitution for taking care of yourself. Take care of your skin and hair, no smoking no drinking, NO drugs. Eat right and get exercise. Every time I see the headline “secrets to getting thin” there is no secret, stop eating shit and get your ass some exercise. Beauty flows from inside out. No matter what the FDA says pumping your self full of pig botulism and chemicals does not do you any favors health wise.
If you want to be a real model with legit clients, clean up your act and put the best you out there. I’m not knocking the use of beauty aids. We all have our tricks to pull it together, just avoid looking like an alien. Play with different looks to create something new is fun and helps you book work from a versatility stand point just know that the real you needs to shine no matter what.

There are a few things that you must have a few things you need need to compete against all of the competition that is out there. If you don’t have at least the basics nobody is going to even spend the time to look at you.
1.) A business card with your photo on it. Be sure to include your direct contact info as well.
2.) A nice clear head shot. Printed in two sizes, 8×10 and a 5×7 or 4×8. KI have address labels with my contact info on the back.
3.) In addition to a head shot you need a clear body shot. in a full length or 3/4. Girls a plain flattering swimsuit and guys, a shirtless photo will do. The more you have to show the easier it is for a booking agent or a casting director to book you.
On a side note, you should have a comp card with a minimum of 4 photos and your stats. again be sure to include your contact info.

I’ve always said that a MUA that puts brown eyeshadow on me is my biggest pet peeve, which is true. However, a person that is incompetent of doing their job or who over steps their bounds is cause for me to come unglued. The world has a place for everybody and everybody has a place. Do exactly what is required of you and get the hell out of other people way. Unfortunately, running into crazy people is inevitable. Know who you are, what you’re there to do and execute. When working in a professional environment, being on task is key. Don’t slack on your duties to interrupt somebody else’s business. Be concerned with your own responsibilities before you decide to “help” others. In the event that you have finished your duties ahead, ask if there is anything you can do to help out.
In case you didn’t know telling professionals how to do their job with or with out doing your own is bad form. Be apart of a team, not apart of the problem. I may be sounding like a captain obvious here, trust me there are people who can’t even begin to comprehend these major etiquette factors. Most importantly, don’t inject yourself into anothers creativity or space. It will not help the end product, which after all is the goal of the day.
Other things to NEVER EVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES PARTAKE IN WHILE WORKING.
1.) be impolite in anyway. Not introducing or greeting others is a big faux pas
2.) trust that somebody else will clean up after you. Before, during or after working.
3.) even entertain the idea of alcohol, drugs or even let people see you smoke
4.) most importantly never lose your cool. Keep it together at all times, DRAMA IS NOT CLASSY.

The best way to stay in the game of making money, in general and especially in the entertainment industry is your ability to move and change to keep up with demand. I pride my self on my ability to shoot glamor just as well as I shoot high fashion.
I look completely different in both photos. A long long time ago I had a photographer tell me I was “too this, not enough of that” she also said ” you’ll never go anywhere you have no versatility.” She is still freezing her ass off in Michigan while I shoot on the beach in Hawaii. See my post on Hatinomics for further explanation. The industry says be a blank canvas read to be painted at the clients whim, I say: be a cameleon that changes your colors to suit the environment.
Staying ahead means being prepared for anything. Tyra Banks says that in her day girls had a signature walk. That’s great but in my experience with runway, I’ll walk however the designer wants me to so I can land the job. When you only have one thing to offer you’re only hurting yourself. Don’t box your self into a corner, make ways to keep expanding. Sharpen your skills in every area. A while ago I thought it sounded unprofessional to say I’m a Model/Actress. I found that a / in anything just sounded unbecoming. Now I say I do everything it just depends on what day it is. Look at any supermodel with a contract. The girls who make the big $$$ with Victoria’s Secret, do the runway show the catalog work and prom0tions. Miranda Kerr is a perfect example, she works the print campaigns for all lines, PINK, Very Sexy, Angels, Body and Sexy Little Things then walks for the Christmas fashion show and stars in their commercials in addition to promotional events for the stores. Plus she’s dating Orlando Bloom all of this definitely qualifies her as a SUPERWOMAN!

The amount of haters you have are greater than or equal to the amount in your bank account.
Contrary to popular belief, I love being told I cannot do something. If and when this happens I make it a point to see to it that the disbelief is made reality and maybe take out an ad campaign to announce the accomplishment. There are a certain number of people that had something to say about my ambitions and they know EXACTLY who they are. These people now ask for souvenirs from the places I go on the regular. Point being, use the negative energy as fuel. Harness the hater power and make it useful. It is lonely at the top but the people who are truly happy for you are all you need in your life.
If you have an idea or even a general direction that you want to head into refuse to get out of the way until it does. All competiton is is outlasting the guy next to you and the guys next to them. Think of it this way people who put their energy into you weather it be negative or positive have you on their minds and that is what propels you forward.

I was looking through an old notebook today and it had some journaling in it from my transition period from Michigan to LA. I had list and things I wanted to do and see and looking back on it I got to really see what I have accomplished. Places I wanted to go and projects and ideas I had. Next month is the 2 year anniversary of my move to a better life. It’s a great feeling to check off things I wanted to do and places I wanted to do.
Moral of the story is write out what you want to accomplish and every single idea that pops into your brain. It’s important to your development of an idea or goal. I have heard that if you write out your thoughts/needs/wants it will help them manifest in a full moon. Keep records of your thoughts and read them a later. You’ll see how you have grown and where you came from. If anything it will help you organize your thoughts.

The hardest thing to learn in the case of modeling or acting is letting go. When you let go of worrying about people judging your performance your work will improve greatly. My first photo shoot I was sliding off the chair because I couldn’t hold my self together. However, at the time photographers were still shooting on film so frames were of the essence. A deer in the headlights look isn’t flattering to anybody. Shooting digitally, you can take an infinite amount of good or bad images. Delete it, keep it, send it away who cares. Once you let go and play to the camera not against it, you have all sorts of new images. This opens the door to learn what your best angles and poses are. I have named my favorite poses and come up with new ones all the time. If you get to a shoot and don’t know where to st art, take a look at a magazine and see whats being published. If you’re really lost make each frame as different as you can to ensure lots of variety. I also recommend dancing to the music in your head to add a little more life to you images.
Acting is a whole other kind of comfort level. I haven’t fully let go yet but I’m working on it. However, the great thing about acting is that you can hide behind your character. Unlike modeling, there is a gigantic crew of people to pull a performance from you. Method acting isn’t my thing but it does seem to service lots of people like Tom Hanks and Jim Carrey. Again, if you don’t like it just re-shoot it. It doesn’t matter how many Oscars somebody has they are never a one take wonder all of the time. Putting unnecessary pressure on yourself is only hurting you. Worrying about it won’t make the situation get any better.

Golden Globes 2010 at the Beverly Hilton, Los Angeles

I woke up the day Golden Globes to the horror of rain, pouring rain. In the midst of my hair crisis I get word from my reporter friend that nobody felt the need to cover the whole red carpet. The red carpet was like walking on saturated sponges. My feet were soaked before I even made it inside. As I was walking in quite a few people came pouring out. David Duchovny was pulling Tea Leoni onto the side walk to wait for their car. Kevin Connolly out happily taking pictures with the die hard fans waiting on the side walk. As Drew Berrymore came slinking out (who was looking extra thin) some asshole decided to rudely take a picture with her.

Inside the Beverly Hilton was packed to the hilt. There were about 5 different parties going on. HBO, NBC/Universal, InSTYLE, Weinstien. Crazy parties. I went to the HBO party that was BEAUTIFUL except it was staged over the pool and trader Vic’s area so the fire Marshall would allow them to tent the area. Everything and everybody was soaking wet. All of the carpets and rugs were underwater. Wearing a full length gown was a big mistake, rain is not the ideal the situation for chiffon formal wear. When I got home I found rain in my bra. I met loads of great people and it was great to see Jeremy Piven having a great time with Rex Lee even though Jeremy didn’t win yet another golden globe. Adrain Grenier didn’t show up to the HBO party because he was at the NBC Universal Party. My favorite rapper of all time Horsedick.mpg aka Craig Robinson was hanging out at HBO party. Beverly D’Angelo was chatting with everybody. I didn’t get to meet Doug Ellin but the food and cupcakes went over famously. I had amazing time in my Max Azria dress and just a few diamonds.
